The original LG Prada won praise for being a fashion-friendly and simple to use full touchscreen phone. By adding features usually seen on high-end smartphones -- high-resolution screen, high-resolution digital camera, and full web browser -- this Flash UI-based mobile was able to carve out a distinctive niche for itself.
The second generation of the Prada aims to build on the former's functionality with a new sliding keyboard, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connectivity, and enhanced multimedia facilities.
Hardware
The Prada 2's design will have a simplistic look. Its front will be dominated by a 240-by-400-pixel, capacitive touchscreen. Below this will be a send/end buttons.
This upcoming device's design brings a sliding keyboard to the slim Prada profile, which adds the functionality needed for easier message creation.
The tri-band (GSM 900/1800/1900) mobile also adds 3G connectivity (7.2 Mbps HSDPA), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and support for video calling.
The Prada 2 will have a 5 MPx camera with a Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens. Much like Nokia's emphasis of the Carl Zeiss lens, this certification is not just a branding effort, but a move toward top-of-the-line image quality. Multiple zoom levels and an auto-focus feature are among the features of the optics.
Software
On the software side, the Flash-based proprietary operating system will gain performance enhancements.
The Prada 2's web browser will be able to view full websites.
A music player, document viewer, voice memo application, Java support, and a basic personal info organizer round out the software offerings.
Availability
The Prada 2 will be available in before the end of this year with a starting price of 600 Euros in Italy, UK, France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands.
