Some Windows Mobile 6.0 Upgrades Disappearing Nov. 1

Both Palm and HTC are warning their customers that operating system upgrades for some of their older models will soon no longer be available.

Palm

The free Windows Mobile 6.0 update for AT&T's version of the Treo 750 will no longer be available as of November 1.

Palm is encouraging users of this smartphone to download this upgrade now, as it provides faster downloads, improved calendar functionality, and compatibility with Windows Vista. The free update can be found on Palm's website.

At the same time, Palm is assuring those who are happy with their Treo 750 running Windows Mobile 5.1 don't have to upgrade.

Also, Treo 750 purchased from AT&T after December 2007 are already running Windows Mobile 6.0, so the upgrade is unnecessary.

HTC

HTC has a similar warning for users of its several smartphone models. October 31 will be the last day to get a free Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade for the:

• HTC Advantage
• HTC S621
• HTC S620
• HTC P4350
• HTC P3300

The upgrade link will be removed from HTC’s website at 12:00 pm (noon) GMT on October 31.

Just To Be Sure...

So there's not any confusion, these companies are not talking about upgrades from Windows Mobile 6.0 to Windows Mobile 6.1. Instead, the software upgrades that are soon the be removed are to Windows Mobile 6.0 from an even older version of this operating system.
