Terry Myerson is taking over as the head of Microsoft Mobile Communications Product Group, which means he's in charge of the Windows Mobile product team.

Windows MobileMyerson is no stranger at Microsoft; he was leading the group responsible for Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007

In a recent interview with Windows IT Pro, he laid out his group's strategy for this platform:

"Microsoft's strategy for Windows Mobile has always been to nail tough business requirements while not forgetting that all of us go home to our families and friends. And we want people to carry a single phone that crosses those two worlds seamlessly."

A Dangerous Future

Windows Mobile has long been popular with business users, but has struggled to find a similar foothold among consumers.

Still, Microsoft recently acquired Danger, Inc. as a way to widen its appeal to consumers. Danger is the company behind the Sidekick -- a line of smartphones popular for their ease of use. Myerson indicated that its expertise will be used to make future versions of Windows Mobile more appealing to the average user.
