Redfly $200 Special Offer Extended to Mid-November

For the past month or so, the Celio Redfly has been available at half price. This offer was going to expire at the end of October, but has instead been extended for two more weeks.

The Redfly is a laptop-shaped device that can be used to give a Windows Mobile device a larger display, full keyboard, mouse, and USB ports. Essentially, it turns a smartphone into a subnotebook.

Celio ran its half-price special for all of October, and is pleased with the result. It said in a statement, "The promotion has been enormously successful by introducing Redfly to new markets, users, and applications. The breadth of user interaction and media coverage has propelled Redfly into the mobile market spotlight and caught the attention of handset makers, service providers, and applications developers."

This device normally sells for $400, but it is priced at $200 until Monday, Nov. 17. It is available from  Celio Corp, eXpansys, Amazon.com, WMexperts.com, and Enterprise Mobile.

More about the Celio Redfly

Although at first glance this model resembles a subnotebook, the Redfly works completely differently. It serves as an accessory for a smartphone, and does not act as a stand-alone computer.

When Celio's device is connected to a Windows Mobile phone, either by Bluetooth or USB, any application on the smartphone is shown on the Mobile Companion's 8-inch, WVGA display without modification or synchronization. The user is then able to interact with that application through a large keyboard and trackpad or mouse.

It is able to run for eight hours on a single charge, or some of its battery power can be transferred to the smartphone. 

The Redfly is 9 inches wide, 6 inches deep, and 1 inch thick. It weighs 2.0 pounds (plus a 4 oz. adapter).
