Sprint is now offering a new version of the Palm Centro with twice as much memory as the earlier one.
This smartphone has been available from Sprint for about a year now, and in an attempt to spur sales this carrier has released this enhanced version, which includes 128 MB of internal storage.
It comes in two new colors, olive green and vibrant rose, and features a soft-touch finish that is intended to feel smooth and comfortable in the hand.
This version is now available for a special promotional price -- $80 with a two-year service contract and $100 mail-in rebate and $25 or higher data add-on or Everything plan with data.
It has been available from a few retail locations since last month, but can now be purchased at Sprint Stores, consumer and business sales channels, and online at Sprint.com/Centro.
Closeout Sale On the Original
With the new version now widely available, the original one has been discontinued and is being sold at a discount.
It can be purchased for $50 with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate on Sprint's website.
More About the Palm Centro
Despite its small and light design, the Centro still includes a full QWERTY keyboard and a 320 by 320 pixel touchscreen. It is 4.2 inches tall, 2.1 inches wide, and 0.73 inches thick, and weighs 4.2 ounces.
Palm and Sprint are targeting this model at consumers and first-time smartphone users, hence its small size and low price.
This device runs on Sprint's CDMA network, and it supports this carrier's high-speed EV-DO wireless network. It also includes Bluetooth.
In addition, the Centro has a microSD card slot and a 1.3 MP camera.
