AT&T is just about to introduce the Nokia 6650 smartphone. A replacement to the aging N75, the new device takes a few steps up in hardware and software.
The 6550 is a flip-style smartphone. A 1.4-inch external display shows status updates and allows the control of some multimedia functions. On the inside it has a numberpad and a QVGA (320 by 240 pixel) primary screen.
A dual-band (850/1900) mobile, this device supports UMTS and HSDPA 3G wireless connectivity. While it does not have Wi-Fi, it does have a built-in GPS receiver and Bluetooth.
The 6550 also features a 2.0 megapixel camera which has a flash and supports geo-tagging.
A microSD card slot supports up to 16 GB memory cards.
Software and Applications
This Nokia model uses the Symbian S60 operating system version 3.2 (Feature Pack 2). The usual suite of PIM applications includes Calendar, Contacts, Active Notes, and Mail for Exchange.
The AT&T version of the 6650 will also come carrier-specific applications such as AT&T Navigator, AT&T Video Share, and AT&T Mobile Music.
There are also thousands of third-party applications compatible with Symbian S60 accessible from the Download! application store, which is included on the device.
Availability and Pricing
The Nokia 6650 will be available from AT&T retail stores nationwide beginning Nov. 14 for $70 with a two-year service agreement.
