Sprint recently introduced its version of the HTC Touch Pro. This Windows Mobile smartphone's features set includes a VGA touchscreen, sliding keyboard, 528 MHz processor, EV-DO, and GPS.
I've only had a few days to try it out, but I have some first impressions to share.
Other than its cellular radio, the Sprint version of the Touch Pro is pretty much identical to the unlocked GSM model, as well as the AT&T Fuze. Unlike some HTC devices, they all have the same general looks. Sprint's version has a polished front and curved back.
Beautiful Screen
The Touch Pro features TouchFLO 3D, the spiffed-up version of HTC's custom interface designed to take advantage of the Pro's graphics hardware.
Combined with a full VGA screen, the Pro presents a lot of lush visuals just in the process of moving between information displays.
Even with the added resolution, though, the touchscreen is the same size as ever, 2.8 inches. That puts the actual clarity at a whopping 287 pixels per inch, beautiful to look at as long as you don't need glasses.
Unremarkable Form-Factor
The Touch Pro definitely leans on its high-end screen and sexy interface, since its form-factor is unremarkable: the device is surprisingly thick when you consider its relatively small battery capacity.
And the keyboard, while similar to recent HTC sliders, doesn't do anything special. Still, Sprint deserves credit for leaving HTC's keyboard layout alone. AT&T couldn't resist re-arranging the Fuze's to make numbers harder to get to.
A full review of Sprint's version of the Touch Pro will be available soon.
