Apple has released a fairly significant update for the system software running on the iPhone.
The new iPhone 2.2 software brings a number of enhancements, many of which are related to Google Maps. After installing this update, users will have access to Google Street View, which displays street-level photographs of places located in Maps.
In addition, this application will be able to provide walking directions, public transit schedules, fare prices, and estimates of travel time.
Users will even be able to Tap the Share Location button to send an email that includes a Google Maps URL.
Other Improvements
Not all the enhancements in iPhone 2.2 are about navigation. It also allows users to directly download podcasts, rather than side-loading them from a desktop.
Apple promises that a new version of the Safari web browser offers better performance and more stability.
The company also promises improvements in the calling experience: a decrease in call setup failures and dropped calls.
Complete details on iPhone 2.2 can be found on Apple's website.
To install this update, connect the iPhone to a computer running iTunes and follow the instructions.
