Nokia has just launched a beta of Nokia Messaging, a free consumer-oriented push email service for its smartphones. This will eventually offer consumer instant messaging (IM), too.
This application has been around for a while as Nokia Mail, but was apparently re-named as part of the decision to add IM functionality.
This application gives users access to Yahoo! Mail, Microsoft Hotmail, Gmail, and AOL Mail, as well as email solutions from thousands of ISPs around the world.
Nokia promises that this messaging software makes it simple to set-up an email account: all users have to enter are their email address and password, and emails will start being pushed to their mobile device.
It allows smartphone users to read, send, forward and reply to emails, download and read attachments, and attach files to messages.
The Nokia Messaging push email service is available today for free as a limited-period beta trial. Users of Symbian S60 devices can go to email.nokia.com and install the application.
Instant Messaging
When instant messaging functionality is added in the second half of 2009, Nokia Messaging will give users access to Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk.
Support for Nokia Series 40 devices will be added in the second half of 2009, too.
