BATTLE OF THE GENERALS REVIEW - by Barry Doyle
Calling all
Stratego, and Chess
fans – This one was made for you! If you are looking for something a little more complex than shifting colorful squares or dots across your Pocket PC screen and you are craving true strategy, you are sure to enjoy this game.
After the game loads (along with a military drum role), the player is greeted by this start screen. The HOW TO PLAY menu leads to a great quickstart guide explaining the basics of gameplay and illustrates the use of each “piece” in the game. If you’re like me, you can’t wait to get on to the game without having to spend a couple hours learning how to play it. So after just breezing through this initial tutorial it is simple to play your first game or so with the
help feature turned on.
GOTTA “CAPTURE” THAT FLAG! This clever pop-up feature is invaluable and assures the player can have fun right at the start. This function allows the player to tap on a piece and review its role and strengths before moving it. This is a fun way to learn while actually playing at the same time! As the game progresses, even the first-timer will start to see patterns and feel the thrill of tactical and clever scheming similar to the experience of chess.
The developer included some nice options to continue challenging the advanced player. Additionally,it is always nice to be able to change the look of the game and here three options are offered to alter the appearance of the board.
In conclusion, Battle of the Generals offers fun and tactical gameplay. This game was well-planned from its menus to its help functions, boards and overall gaming experience. The sound effects and graphics are professional and pleasantly enhance the game without distracting the player from being able to concentrate. The game has excellent “save” and “exit” options and runs stable without any apparent bugs or complications. It appears the developer went to great lengths to assure this product has been released as a final and polished version.
