While Nokia's use of Symbian S60 gets the press for capabilities, it's Nokia's use of Symbian S40 that makes up the bulk of its bottom line. With that in mind, and much tighter competition with closed and open source mobile operating systems, Nokia has released the Series 40 6th Edition SDK (Software Development Kit).
This SDK provides the basic framework developers need to create, test, and debug applications for the Symbian S40 operating system.
It includes support for the Nokia WebKit Open Source Browser, Adobe Flash Lite 3.0, and the Java-based location API (JSR-179). It also provides Java class libraries, APIs (including the Nokia UI API), relevant documentation and a device emulator for testing Java, Flash Lite, and browser content.
The Series 40 6th Edition SDK is a free download, and is available now from Forum Nokia.
