A North American 3G variant of one of Nokia's most anticipated models, the N85, is now available. This Symbian S60 smartphone has an OLED screen and a focus on multimedia.
The European version of the N85 is already a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM mobile, so all that was required for this new version was the addition of North American 3G compatibility (850/1900/2100 MHz).
This smartphone is being sold unlocked, and it can be used by customers of AT&T, Rogers, and other GSM carriers. It doesn't, however, offer the unusual version of 3G offered by T-Mobile.
The Nokia N85 can be ordered now from Amazon.com. The price is $556.
More about the Nokia N85
The N85 is essentially a replacement for the groundbreaking N95 smartphone, and features a dual-slider design evolved from the N81/N96.
In addition to the 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, built-in GPS, and compatibility with North American 3G GSM networks (850/1900/2100), the N85 features a 2.6-inch QVGA screen made of organic LEDs (or AM-OLEDs). This type of screen does not use a backlight and can therefore enable the 1200 mAh battery to last a lot longer than comparable mobile devices.
The N85 also features context-changing keys on the top slider area for N-Gage and music player use.
