Although the T-Mobile G1 is a ground-breaking device is some ways, its battery life isn't anything to brag about. According to an unconfirmed report, T-Mobile is going to remedy this by sending all G1 owners a second battery, free of charge.
The G1 -- the first smartphone running Google Android OS -- comes with a 1000 mAh battery. This means that many users have to charge their phone every day, as the G1 won't last two days on a charge with moderate to heavy use.
A T-Mobile employee has supposedly confirmed earlier reports that his company is going to send out additional batteries to everyone who has this Android-powered device, and customers won't be asked to return their current one.
A High-Capacity Battery?
The unnamed source did not say if the new battery will have the same capacity as the original one, or if it will be a higher capacity version.
Seidio recently began offering a 1400 mAh battery for the T-Mobile G1 that is the same size as the 1000 mAh standard battery. If this is the battery T-Mobile has chosen, it would significantly increase this smartphone's time between recharges without requiring a new back cover.
