Easy iPhone 3G Unlocking Tool Available, but Still in Beta

In December, the infamous iPhone Dev Team promised to release on New Year's Eve a tool for easily unlocking the iPhone 3G. It didn't quite meet this goal, but has put out a beta version of its software.

Installing this software will allow the iPhone 3G to be used with any GSM network, such as T-Mobile USA or Rogers. However, 3G service won't be available with T-Mobile, as it uses an incompatible frequency for this service.

This software -- codenamed yellowsn0w -- has been packaged into a user-friendly application, but the team warns that the latest version, 0.9.4 beta, still has bugs in it.

It requires an iPhone 3G that has been jailbroken and has baseband 02.28.00.
