The team inside of Nokia responsible for the Mobile Web Server has announced a a final release of the beta, with some additional features and a means for others to develop on top of this open-source software.
This application allows users to actually host a website from their Symbian S60 smartphone.
The final beta release of the Mobile Web Server has a new Group Calendar widget application. which enables the ability to view others' Mobile Web Server calendars in real-time.
There's also an enhanced Facebook application, which addresses performance and user experience. Users of the Mobile Web Server with the Facebook application can update their status and have it be seen by other Facebook users.
In addition, it contains documentation on how to use the MWS REST APIs to develop new kind of applications on the Mobile Web Server platform.
A Permanent Beta
According to the MWS team, the Mobile Web Server Beta has reached technical maturity and will therefore see no new planned beta releases. Users can expect that the mymobilesite.net gateway service will continue for the foreseeable future, but new development will not continue except by developers interested in using the platform.
