Just a few weeks ago, there were rumors that Wal-Mart would soon begin offering the iPhone at $99. While this turned out to be partially incorrect -- yes, Wal-Mart is going to offer this smartphone, but at the regular price -- it is possible to get an iPhone 3G with 8 GB of storage for just $99 straight from AT&T.

There's a small caveat, though -- the unit is refurbished. This means it has been purchased and then later returned for some reason.
As AT&T says:
Refurbished phones are previously owned devices that have been unused or lightly used and returned during the 30-day trial period. Each refurbished phone is independently quality tested and loaded with the latest software to meet current factory standards. Some refurbished iPhone 3G devices will have minor scratches.
Getting this price requires agreeing to a two-year iPhone service contract. The regular price for a non-refurbished device with 8 GB of storage and this same service agreement is $200.
A refurbished iPhone 3G with 16 GB of storage sells for $200, which is $100 off the regular price.

These prices on refurbished units are good only through tomorrow. After that they will jump up $50, making the refurbished iPhone 3G with 8 GB storage $150, and the 16 GB version $250.
