Conduits Technologies has released the latest version of its Pocket Player media application for Windows Mobile devices. Now at version 4.0, Pocket Player brings full support for AAC/M4A media, a new podcasts subscription feature, enhanced MP3 support, and several fixes and performance enhancements.
AAC content is supported via local storage (such as a memory card), streaming over a network (with the Pocket Player UPnP plugin), or after clicking on a web feed or download link. Pocket Player 4.0 also reads all metadata from the AAC/M4A track, such as album artwork, and will add them to the Pocket Player media browser. The media browser features a "Web Guide" screen that loads a directory of Internet radio stations, including those streaming AAC content.
Pocket Player 4.0 can now auto-detect any podcasts on the device and categorize them under the media browser's
"Podcasts" screen. Streaming occurs in real time, and requires an active Internet connection for the duration of the podcast. In addition, the latest version introduces podcast subscriptions with automatic background downloading.
This application now uses the MP3 DirectShow decoder provided by Microsoft on all Windows Mobile devices. Moving to this decoder also allowed for other MP3-related issues to be found and fixed.
Pricing and Availability
Pocket Player 4.0 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone is available for $19.95 (a 30-day trial also available). For more information and to purchase, visit the Conduits Technologies website.
