Google has hit on something very popular with its Google Maps Mobile application. In its most recent update, developers have added the ability get directions to restaurants, stores, and other points of interest by entering their names in the start or end point.
The feature works by interpreting the start or end terms with Google's database of businesses, and then seeks to resolve the start/end point with that information.
Until today, if someone tried to get directions and entered a business name, "starbucks" for example, as the end or start point, Google Maps for Mobile did not understand that they meant Starbucks the business. Rather, the application would search for an address with "starbucks" in it.
Google Maps for Mobile now recognizes when the end or start point is a business and not an address.
This update does not require the user to download the application again, as it is update on Google's servers that address this feature.
More information is available on the official Google Blog.
Google Maps Mobile is available for Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Android, iPhone, Symbian S60, and Java-based mobile phones. To download it, visit the Google Maps Mobile website.
