Nokia has announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that it will being bringing the recently-announced E63 QWERTY smartphone to North America. This will be a version of this device made for North American 3G frequencies.
The E63 will not debut with a carrier, therefore it will only be available unlocked, and able to work with AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers or other GSM carriers.
Unlike many unlocked smartphones, with its low price of $280 , it won't be out of the range of many smartphone purchasers.
More about the Nokia E63 NAM
The E63 will be a similar model to Nokia's popular E71 QWERTY smartphone, but have some significant differences in keyboard design, body thickness, and 3G support -- the E63 does not support HSDPA.
This smartphone will included Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fie, and GPS/A-GPS as wireless connectivity options. A 2-MPx camera, 3.5mm stereo headset jack, and support for 16 GB microSDHC memory cards are also standard features.
On the software side, it will run the Symbian S60 Feature Pack 1 (v3.1) operating system. Support for Nokia's Mail for Exchange out of the box will bring Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync compatibility, which includes email, calendar, contacts, and tasks sync, plus global address book lookup. Nokia's online files service called Files on Ovi will also be included, offering 1 GB of space for free.
Availability
Available in the coming weeks, the Nokia E63 will come in ruby red or ultramarine blue, and can purchased unlocked through various retail stores, Nokia Flagship Stores in New York and Chicago as well as a number of independent retailers and e-tailers.
