It appears that Sprint's version of the HTC Touch Diamond will be one of the few current models to get an upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer Mobile.
Last year, Microsoft unveiled a new version of its web browser for Windows Mobile. The most obvious enhancement was support for new types of embedded streaming video, including Adobe Flash.
However, because this requires changes in the operating system to run, Internet Explorer Mobile 6.0 isn't being released directly to the public. Instead, it is up to device makers to integrate it into their models.
Last fall, Microsoft said that IE Mobile 6.0 would appear only on new models, but if a Touch Diamond ROM that has leaked out of Sprint is any clue, this isn't the case. Instead, users of this HTC model will soon be able to run this browser.
Other Changes
The inclusion of a new web browser apparently isn't the only change in this ROM update. In fact, it appears that most of the software that is bundled with this smartphone is being updated.
This includes new versions of Opera Mobile, Camera, RSShub, and YouTube, among others.
Get It Now
The leaked version of the upcoming ROM update for the HTC Touch Pro can be downloaded from the PPCGeeks forum.
It is not known when the official version will be released, but if this leak follows the typical pattern, it's likely not too far away.
