It has been rumored for some time that the popular Nokia E71 will be making its way to AT&T, and the latest unconfirmed report not only add weight to these but also adds the detail that it will come in a slightly updated software package than the current version of this S60 smartphone.
According to the latest information, the AT&T version of the E71 will will feature the Symbian S60 v3.2 operating system, sometimes referred to as Feature Pack 2. This features several user interface and power management enhancements over version 3.1.
Leaked images of the version supposedly on its way to AT&T not only show this new operating system, but also a tweaked Active Standby (Today-like) screen and Device Manager application.
The Active Standby screen acts as a quick view for tasks and notifications on Symbian S60 devices. The Device Manager seems to be improved with more information on device function and updating.
Availability?
It is not known that this time when the E71 will make its introduction to AT&T. However, the user who provided the screen shots claims to have purchased it from Craigslist, so it may very well be that the device is ready, and just awaiting some type of final approval before going on sale.
The current unlocked/unbranded E71 is available for less than $400 at most online retailers. It can also be purchased from some Best Buy Mobile kiosks. This unlocked/unbranded version of the E71 comes in Euro 3G versions (E71-1) and North American 3G (E71-2) versions.
