Acer has invited journalists to an event next month where it will introduce a new line of smartphones.
Acer has kept a close wrap on the details of these upcoming devices; little is known besides the fact that they will use Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system.
More information may have to wait until the announcement, which will be at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona on Feb. 16.
A New Commitment to Smartphones
Acer has been putting together a major push into the smartphone market for some time now. Last year, it acquired E-TEN, who has a great deal of experience making Windows Mobile devices.
In an interview last year, Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer, said smartphones could be responsible for up to 10% of his company's revenue in the future.
It intends to sell its mobile products through wireless carriers, not directly to consumers as E-TEN often did.
