Pocket Watch Software has launched ActivePrint Traveler, inexpensive software which allows users to print from their smartphone.
This application supports printing photos, contacts in the Address Book, web pages, plain text documents, the contents of the Clipboard, and Microsoft Office files including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
All the user needs is the ActivePrint Traveler software installed on their Internet-enabled phone and access to a Windows XP/Vista PC hooked up to a printer. This PC can be their own, or it can be a PC publicly available in a hotel or in an open access lab at their school.
The Printing Process
To print with ActivePrint Traveler, the user chooses the file, then specifies the number of copies and portrait/landscape mode, and sends it. The print job will then be submitted to a server.
Later, the user will run the ActivePrint Traveler Helper Application (available for free from Pocket Watch Software's web site) on a desktop or laptop with a printer. This program will then automatically download and print the document from the account.
The company suggests users carry a copy of the ActivePrint Traveler Helper Application on a USB thumbdrive.
Windows Mobile Now, Other Versions Soon
Pocket Watch Software has released the first line of ActivePrint Traveler for Windows Mobile Standard, Classic, and Professional. It is available now at www.activeprinttraveler.com for $3.99, or a 14-day trial version is available.
The company plans to release an Apple iPhone version within a couple of months through the Apple iTunes App Store, and BlackBerry and Google Android versions are also in development.
