LG has decided to go ahead and officially take the wraps off the Arena KM900, releasing many of the details on this upcoming touchscreen-oriented smartphone. The company stopped short of a full announcement, though.
Today's announcement doesn't include all the details of this model, but it does hit many of the high points. A full overview will have to wait until the Mobile World Congress tradeshow next week.
More about the LG Arena KM900
The Arena will have a large touchscreen and a new 3D user interface, which can be seen in the preview image. This will have a cube-based layout, which provides four customizable home screens for direct access to the phone's features.
With its large display, the Arena will have a focus on multimedia, and is expected to include a 5 MPx camera capable of recording DVD-quality video. LG says playback will be aided by Dolby and DivX technologies.
“The direct, intuitive and dynamic S-Class UI will be unlike anything that has appeared on a mobile phone before. With rich 3D graphics, touch sensitivity, and exciting multimedia capabilities, it will truly make ARENA a fully loaded multimedia phone,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile.
In addition, this GSM smartphone will have HSDPA 7.2 -- a very high-speed version of 3G -- Wi-Fi, and GPS.
It is expected to launch in Europe in March, though a N. American debut is less certain.
