While GPS on a mobile has proved handy for driving and walking directions, those who hike and work in off-road conditions also benefit from mobile mapping solutions. ViewRanger, a popular off-road satellite navigation application, is now available for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and other S60 5th Edition (touchscreen-enabled) mobiles.
ViewRanger's maps can be downloaded directly to the handset via Wi-Fi (WLAN) or mobile Internet, downloaded to a PC to be side-loaded onto a handset, or are available pre-loaded on SD memory-cards.
Where ViewRangers 3D Panorama maps are available, landscape features can be pointed to and they are then identified using the wireless connection.
ViewRanger also adds location-based route searching and integration with BuddyBeacon. In addition to finding other BuddyBeacon users, through a partnership with Retrieva Tracking Ltd, users can track and navigate to their dogs via Retrieva's upcoming GPS-enabled dog collar.
For more information, or to download a trial, visit the ViewRanger website.
