An unconfirmed report says that an LG smartphone with an unusual, modular design based on detachable accessories will hit the market next month.
Images and details of the LG Versa, AKA the VX9600, have been leaking out for a while, but until now there has been nothing about a release date.
The latest leak indicates that this model will be released by Verizon Wireless sometime in the first half of March.
UPDATE: According to new information, the Versa will debut on March 1. More information, including the price, is available in this article.
More about the LG Versa
This phone will supposedly offer a variety of clip-on accessories. These will allow users to carry around a relatively small phone, but have the option to covert this into a larger but more capable device for specialized tasks.
For example,a keyboard module will make it easier to write emails and text messages (see image at left),while another module will offer additional gaming controls.
A music module will reportedly include a larger set of speakers and more storage for holding files.
There is no word yet on what Verizon will charge for the LG Versa, or how much the add-on modules will sell for.
An official announcement of this model is expected at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow, which starts next week in Barcelona.
