Phones with very high-resolution cameras are all the rage at this year's Mobile World Congress tradeshow, and Nokia has thrown its hat in the ring with the N86 8MP.
This will include wide-angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens for panoramic pictures and an 8 megapixel sensor. Its camera has been designed to work well in both bright and low light conditions, and has been optimized for both video and still imaging.
"When it comes to taking the best digital photos, it's the quality of the lens and the sensor that count, not just the quantity of pixels. The Nokia N86 8MP is the first mobile device with variable aperture, adding to the Carl Zeiss Tessar lens for excellent results. It has never been easier to capture special moments in such a great quality," says Helmut Heier of Carl Zeiss.
High-End Cameraphone...
Almost every detail of this model has been designed with photography in mind, including 8 GB of internal memory for up to 4,000 images. This can be increased with a 16 GB microSD card.
The Nokia N86 8MP will also offer a OLED screen with scratch resistant glass, photo management software, full sync capability with a PC, and TV-out support for slide shows.
This smartphone's support for 3G high-speed connectivity and Nokia's Ovi service will allow users to to share their images from anywhere, which can also be geo-tagged thanks to the built-in GPS receiver.
...with a Bit More
The N86 8MP will also include a built-in compass, along with an 3-month license for the Nokia Maps service, which offers full voice and pedestrian navigation.
It will allow users to watch video with its 2.6-inch QVGA screen and integrated kick stand. It will be able to play up to 25 hours of music on a single battery charge.
This model will use design created by Nokia, in which the display can slide one way to expose a set of buttons for controlling the multimedia functions, including the camera controls, and slide the other way to expose a hardware numberpad.
This help to remind users that, in addition to all its multimedia features, this Symbian S60 device will also be a phone.

The Nokia N86 8MP is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of 2009, with an estimated retail price of EUR 375, before taxes and subsidies.
