The LG Versa still hasn't been officially announced, but most of the important details have now leaked out on this smartphone with an unusual, modular design based around detachable accessories.
An overall description of this upcoming model has been available for a while, and the two last critical pieces of information have now been revealed: pricing and the release date. According to an unconfirmed report, Verizon Wireless will introduce it on March 1 for $200, with contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate.
The LG Versa's design centers on clip-on attachments, and it will come with a small keyboard. Those who are interested can remove this and replace it with a a dedicated game controller, but this will cost $30 extra.
An Overview of the LG Versa
The goal of the LG Versa, AKA the VX9600, is apparently to allow users to carry around a relatively small phone, but have the option to covert this into a larger but more capable device for specialized tasks.
The keyboard module will make it easier to write emails and text messages (see image at left), while a gaming module will offer additional gaming controls.
The device itself will use LG's new S-Class 3D user interface on a proprietary OS. It will have a touchscreen and when the hardware keyboard isn't attached give users the option of entering text with an on-screen keyboard or handwriting recognition.
The Versa will also have a microSD card slot, Bluetooth, and a 2 MPx camera with support for images and video.
This has not yet been confirmed, but this model will also likely support verizon's mobile broadband service EV-DO.
