The Asus P835 will be a Windows Mobile Pro smartphone centered around a 3.5-inch, WVGA touchscreen. It will also sport a number of other high-end features, like the latest version of 3G high-speed wireless networking.
This smartphone's large, high-resolution screen will put it up against models like the HTC Touch HD and the upcoming HTC Touch Diamond2.
To help it compete, Asus is loading this device up with features, including support for the 3G standard HSPA -- which means 7.2 Mbps wireless downloads and 2 Mbps uploads... under ideal conditions, of course. And it will be able to function as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, sharing its HSPA connection with other computers.
The P835 will offer significant storage for those who want to use it as as a audio and video player: 4 GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot, pushing the potential capacity to 34 GB.
Software, Too
The P835 will run Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, but will also include a new version of Glide, Asus' alternative user interface for Windows Mobile. This offers a variety of themes for the user to choose from.
Asus is emphasizing this smartphone's capabilities as a web browser. This will come from the device's generous screen and Opera Mobile, regarded by most as one of the most capable phone browsers available.
In addition, it will come with Microsoft's standard suite of productivity and entertainment software, including a version of Microsoft Office.
Additional Hardware Features
The Asus P835 will be based on a 528 MHz processor from Qualcomm, and it will have 288 MB of RAM.
This smartphone will eschew the D-pad typically found on Windows Mobile devices in favor of a trackball.
Among its many wireless options will be Wi-Fi (802.11b+g) and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. It will also have a GPS receiver.
The dimensions of this device will be 115 mm by 59 mm by 13.8 mm, and it will weigh 148 g.
Asus says the 1100 mAh battery will give it a standby time of 350 hours with 3G and 300 hours with 2G, or a talk time of 6 hours with 3G and 7 hours with 2G.
There is no word yet on when the Asus P835 will be released, or what it will cost.
