Amazon.com released a new version of its Kindle e-book reader just last week, but people who want access to this online retaier's vast selection of books don't have to buy one if they have an Apple iPhone or iPod touch, thanks to a new application.
This allows users to shop among over 240,000 books on the Kindle Store, buy them directly, and download them to their smartphone or handheld. New York Times Bestsellers typically sell for $9.99.
Those who already have a Kindle can download their current book to their iPhone and read it even when they don't have their dedicated e-book reader with them. And Amazon's new Whispersync technology saves and synchronizes a customer's bookmarks no matter which device they are using, so customers always have their book with them and never lose their place.
"Kindle for iPhone and iPod touch is a great way for customers to catch up on their current book wherever they are, like in line at the grocery store or between meetings," said Ian Freed, vice president, Amazon Kindle.
Kindle for iPhone and iPod touch is available for free from Apple iTunes Store.
