RIM Reveals More Details on the Upcoming BlackBerry App Store

Research in Motion has released more information about the software store that will soon be included on  BlackBerry smartphones.

In the wake of the wild success of Apple's iPhone App Store, many other companies are coming out with on-device software stores, including Microsoft, Google, and Nokia. BlackBerry App World will be a similar service, allowing users to shop for games or other software directly on their phone.

According to newly revealed information, this service will be just for fairly recent devices. It will support only models running the BlackBerry OS 4.2 or higher, and and that have a trackball or touchscreen.

In addition, all software purchases will be made through PayPal, an online service that allows users to make purchases with a credit card or by drawing funds directly out of a bank account.

Developers will be able to offer free-ware, but the minimum price for commercial applications will be $3.
