Alltel has just launched the Palm Treo Pro, making it the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer this Windows phone, which sports a number of high-end features, including wireless broadband, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
This model has been on the U.S. market as an unlocked phone since last fall, but is only just now being offered by a wireless carrier in this country, though Sprint is going to introduce it later this month. It is also available from carriers in Europe and Canada.
Alltel is charging $200 with a two-year contract and $125 mail-in rebate. It can be ordered now on the shopalltel.com.
An Overview of the Palm Treo Pro
This smartphone has the design that's become a hallmark of the Treo line, a candybar shape with 320-by-320-pixel touchscreen above a QWERTY thumb-keyboard.
It runs Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional on a 400 MHz processor from Qualcomm, and comes with the standard suite of productivity applications.
Alltel's version is a CDMA phone with EV-DO Rev A. In addition, it has Wi-Fi and Stereo Bluetooth.
Other features of the Treo Pro include an external microSD card slot for additional storage (up to 32 GB), a built-in GPS receiver, and a 2.0 MPx camera.
This device is 4.5 inches tall, 2.4 inches wide, and 0.5 inches thick, and it weights 4.6 ounces.
