Sirius XM, best known for its satellite radio service, is planning to introduce software later this year that will let iPhone users listen to Sirius' streaming content.
Sirius broadcasts over 130 digital-quality channels, including 69 channels of commercial-free music, plus exclusive channels of sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic, weather, and data. David Frear, the company's Chief Financial Officer, said the goal of the upcoming version of this application was to widen the potential audience for this service.
Currently, the company offers a plan that allows PC users to listen to its channels for $12.95 a month. There's no word yet on whether the iPhone version will cost the same.
Sirius XM's goal is to introduce this application before the middle of this year, and it will be for both the iPhone and iPod touch. There's no word on versions for other mobile platforms, like BlackBerry or Windows Mobile.
