T-Mobile USA has just introduced the webConnect USB Laptop Stick, a plug-in cellular-wireless modem for laptops and netbooks.
This accessory gives users access to T-Mobile's high-speed HSDPA data network, now available in over 130 cities, and can also connect to EDGE when 3G service isn't available, even while outside of the U.S.
The webConnect USB Laptop Stick also includes Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), though there are few notebooks around these days that don't come with WLAN built in. Still, it insures users will be able to access this carrier's 10,000 hotspots.
In addition, it offers 8 GB of memory, providing portable Storage for documents, music or movies — eliminating the need for an additional USB memory stick.
Pricing and Availability
The webConnect USB Laptop Stick is $50 with a 2-year contract after rebate or $100 with a 1-year contract. The price with no contract is $250. It is available now at T-Mobile.com and at T-Mobile retail stores.
Customers can get 5 GB of Wireless Data per month for $60, with a $0.20/MB overage charge. Unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot access is included as a part of the plan, and does not count against the customers’ monthly data usage.
