An iPhone version of the very popular Skype's VoIP app will be available on Tuesday, while a BlackBerry version is scheduled for a late spring release.
This free application will allow users to talk for free to other Skype clients, on desktops or phones. It will also allow users to call land-lines around the world at low rates. Unlike the other mobile versions of this application, the iPhone version will not allow calls over a cellular-wireless connection, only Wi-Fi.
A 3G connection can be used with Skype's other features, like text chatting.
A number of features from the desktop version of this software won't be in the iPhone one, including SMS, file transfers, and voice mail. It will also lack a feature that isn't in any of the mobile versions: video conferencing.
Skype for iPhone is scheduled to appear in the iTunes App Store tomorrow.
This software will be usable with the iPod touch too, but will require an external microphone.
Other Versions
In addition to the upcoming version of Skype for iPhone, there are also ones for Windows Mobile, Google Android, Nokia Internet Tablets, Windows, and Mac OS X.
A BlackBerry version is scheduled for release in May.
