Sling Media's SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry has officially exited public beta, and the full version and is now available.
This application allow smartphone users to watch everything they could on their home TV. It requires a SlingBox to handle the streaming, but can send live TV programs over wireless networks to a mobile device.
New features were added during the beta period, including the ability to add/edit Slingboxes and Channel Favorites directly on the BlackBerry, additional setting to optimize low bandwidth streaming, general user interface improvements, and more.
Pricing and Availability
SlingPlayer Mobile can be downloaded from mobile.slingmedia.com using the BlackBerry's web browser.
There's no monthly charge for this service, but there's a one-time cost of $29.99 for the software. A 30-day free trial is also available.
It is only officially supported on devices with either 3G or Wi-Fi. In many cases it will work on models with slower connections, though.
Users will, of course, need a Slingbox connected to their television to take advantage of this application.
There are also versions of SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobile, Palm OS, and more.
