Nokia Point & Find Released for U.S. and U.K. Markets

Nokia has released a new beta service/application called Point & Find which enables its users to point their mobile device's camera at a real-life object and then retrieve information about that object from the Internet.

When the smartphone is pointed at an item, Nokia Point & Find uses a variety of the device's capabilities including the camera, Internet connectivity, and GPS positioning to evaluate the object. Then, by rapidly searching through a database of virtually tagged items, the system identifies the object and returns a set of links to associated content and services.

Nokia Point & Find uses real-time image processing and recognition technologies to link the user to digital content and services. In addition to pictures and static objects, it recognizes bar codes, integrates GPS positioning technology, and supports category-specific text-entry search. 

For now, this service is limited to getting more information about movie posters; however, other business segments have taken some interest. Body Works in London is one organization that has been identified as using Point & Find to enhance the Body Works & The Mirror of Time exhibit.
