Samsung's First Android-Powered Smartphone Will Debut in June

A Samsung VP says that his company's first foray into Google's Android operating system will be released in June, and will be followed with more models later this year.

Dr. Won-Pyo Hong, executive vice president of global product strategy in the company's mobile communication division, told Forbes that Samsung's first smartphone running this OS will debut outside of the U.S.

However, this company is planning two more models running Google's mobile OS for the U.S. market. These will be introduced in the second half of the year by two different wireless carriers.

Coming to Sprint and T-Mobile
This isn't the first time Samsung has talked about its Android-based products. The company said in January that it is developing phones for Sprint and T-Mobile running this OS.

According to information that leaked out of Sprint recently, this carrier is planning to introduce its first Android model in the fourth quarter of this year.

More about Samsung's First Android Model
Samsung has not yet officially unveiled its initial Android-powered device, but it has shown off a low-resolution image.

The picture is blurry, but it's good enough to reveal a few the basics on this model: it will apparently have a tablet shape and a touchscreen, and there was no mention of a sliding keyboard. This matches with earlier, unconfirmed reports, which said this phone will be similar to Samsung's Omnia and Instinct.

It's not yet known if the two models coming later this year will have the same general design.
