The HTC Touch Pro2 is an upcoming high-end Windows Mobile smartphone with a large, WVGA Touchscreen and a sliding keyboard. It's scheduled to debut this summer, but HTC is already showing it off though, and I recorded a video overview of it, and also put together some first impressions after using this model for a short time.

First Impressions
I think this is the Windows mobile smartphone a great many people have been waiting for. It will combine all the best of several HTC models into one outstanding device.

The original Touch Pro has a high-resolution screen and a sliding keyboard, but it's display is rather small. The upcoming model will have a much larger screen, and at a higher resolution too. Plus the larger keyboard is easier to use. It's almost as if you took an HTC Touch HD and added a keyboard to it.

The Touch Pro2 will run the latest iteration of TouchFLO 3D, HTC's alternate user interface for Windows Mobile devices. After tinkering with this software for several year, HTC seems to have worked the kinks out. It shows none of the lag that the current version does, and I was testing a pre-production beta.

This device is going to have a lot to offer, but it isn't going to be svelte. You don't put a large screen and keyboard into a tiny phone. Still, the overall package looks good.

HTC Touch Pro2An Overview of the HTC Touch Pro2
The Touch Pro2 will be a "slider," a smartphone with a landscape-oriented sliding QWERTY keyboard. It will also have a 3.6 inch, WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) touchscreen.

It mark the return of the slide-and-tilt screen that was a hallmark of an earlier smartphone from HTC, the AT&T Tilt.

The Touch Pro2 will debut with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1, but make the jump to Windows Mobile 6.5 when this new version is available.

It will be built around a 528 MHz processor from Qualcomm, 288 MB of RAM, and a microSD card slot. It will also have a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, a GPS receiver, and a 1500 mAh battery.

This HTC model will initially be available as a GSM device with 3G, including 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. It will also offer Wi-Fi b/g and Stereo Bluetooth. A CDMA version with EV-DO is expected later, and in the U.S. this product is supposedly on its way to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

The Touch Pro2 will be 4.6 inches by 2.3 inches by 0.7 inches , and weigh 6.17 ounces with battery.
