HTC Snap With T-Mobile 3G Snaps Up FCC Approval

A rumor that T-Mobile USA will be offering the HTC Snap has moved much closer to reality, as the FCC has approved a version of this Windows phone using this carrier's special version of 3G.

T-Mobile uses UMTS/HSDPA like many carriers, but running on a 1700 MHz wireless network, a frequency no other carrier uses for 3G. Therefore, when the FCC approves a version of the HTC Snap with 1700 MHz support, it's a strong sign that this device is on its way to T-Mobile.

And while HTC has committed to releasing an unlocked version of this device for the U.S. market with N. American 3G frequencies, the company said the HTC S522 will have 1900 MHz support, not 1700 MHz.

According to an unconfirmed report, the Snap will reportedly debut on T-Mobile's network on July 1, and will take the place of the T-Mobile Dash in this carrier's lineup.

An Overview of the HTC Snap
This slim Windows phone will have a strong focus on messaging. It will be less than a half-inch thick (12 mm), yet include a full keyboard with domed keys, 2.4-inch QVGA display, and a trackball.

This model will run Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard on a 528 MHz processor, and have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as GPS, 2.0 megapixel camera, and microSD card slot.

HTC  is debuting the Inner Circle service in this device. This brings emails from a preselected group of people to the top of the users inbox, enabling important messages to be acted upon immediately.
