Sony Ericsson's First Android Phone Not Coming Soon

Sony Ericsson's CEO is bullish about Google's Android operating system, but he says it will be some time before his company releases any models running this OS for smartphones.

Hideki Komiyama told Reuters, "Looking ahead I think that we see this as one of the important operating systems, there is no doubt."

Still, that doesn't mean Sony Ericsson will be introducing any Android-based phones in the near future. "It does require a lot of evaluation, as well as a lot of testing, a lot of acceptance from a consumer viewpoint, and there is still some time to go," said Komiyama.

He did not go into any more details about possible future releases.

In the mean time, this company will release more smartphones running Windows Mobile and Symbian S60.

Sony Ericsson may be dragging its feet about releasing an Android-based phone, but several of its competitors are not.

HTC made the first device running this OS, the T-Mobile G1, and plans to release at least three more this year. Samsung will apparently be HTC top competitor, as it also intends to release multiple phones running Android this year.
