First Details Emerge on Two Possible iPhone Models for Verizon

Just yesterday came word that Apple and Verizon are in talks to bring the iPhone to this carrier's network, and today a few details have leaked out on the first models that could be released under this agreement.

One of these has described as the "iPhone Lite," as it will be smaller and less expensive than the current version of this device. The second is a tablet PC that will allow users to play music and video, and also make phone calls over Wi-Fi with VoIP software.

These devices are in the prototype stage, according to BusinessWeek, who says two different people leaked it this information.

What About AT&T?
Exactly when either of these models will be released is unknown, but one of them reportedly may debut this summer. If that's true, it would almost certainly have to be the tablet device, as AT&T has a contract to exclusively offer all Apple's phones until the middle of next year, at least.

If Verizon and Apple are talking about an iPhone Lite, it may be a sign that this carrier may soon become a second source for iPhone devices, rather than Verizon replacing Apple as the sole provider. AT&T could continue to offer the "full" iPhone version, while Verizon has the "lite" version.

Of course, all of this depends on the negotiations between Apple and Verizon bearing fruit, which is far from certain, especially considering AT&T will be working hard to make sure these talks go nowhere, as it wants to continue its exclusivity agreement with Apple.
