Verizon Wireless will soon introduce the MiFi 2200, a small and portable Wi-Fi hotspot that will have built-in mobile broadband. This will allow any device -- phone, laptop, or MID -- with Wi-Fi to connect to Verizon's high-speed network when almost anywhere in the U.S.
Typical mobile-broadband cards can be used with only one computer at a time, but the MiFi can share a single EV-DO Rev. A connection with 5 devices, thanks to its integrated Wi-F router.
Verizon says this battery-powered accessory is good for 4 hours of use or up to 40 hours on standby.
Pricing and Availability
The MiFi 2200 will go on sale on May 17, and will sell for $100 with contract and a rebate.
Verizon is giving users a few options for service. A $40 per month subscription includes 250 MB of data transfers, while a $60 plan brings 5 GB. Occasional users can pay $15 a day, but they also have to buy the MiFi at full price.
