The Samsung Alias 2 is an inexpensive, consumer-oriented messaging phone that has just debuted from Verizon.
This device's dual-hinge design allows it to flip open with the keyboard in either a horizontal or portrait orientation.
This isn't the first phone to use this form-factor, but what sets it apart from the pack is its E-Ink keyboard, so what's displayed on the keys can rotate as the device changes orientation. When the Alias 2 is opened vertically as a flip phone it has a traditional numeric keypad, but the keys change to an alphabet-only keyboard when the device is opened in landscape mode.
Other Features
This model has a 2.6-inch QVGA screen and support for Verizon's mobile broadband (EV-DO) service.
The Alias 2 also supports RemoSync, so customers can synchronize corporate e-mail, contacts, and calendars from their offices' PC
Other features include a 2.0 megapixel camera with video capture capabilities and Bluetooth short-range wireless technology.
Overall, this device is 4.0 by 2.0 by 0.7 inches and 4.3 ounces.
Verizon says its battery offers 300 minutes of talk time or up to 336 hours of standby time.
Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Alias 2 is available now on Verizon's website.
It sells for $80 with a two-year contract and online discount.
