Sprint Will Release the MiFi Wireless Broadband Hotspot

Sprint plans to introduce the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200 mobile hotspot early next month. This accessory will allow users to connect to the Internet wherever they go by bridging Wi-Fi devices to Sprint's EV-DO Rev. A mobile broadband network.

"You can hold the MiFi 2200 in the palm of your hand, slip it in your pocket, even place it on a beach towel if you're lying under the sun and wirelessly connect your laptop, MP3 player, and gaming device to the Internet all at once," said Steve Elfman, president of network, wholesale and product, Sprint. "If I have a Wi-Fi-enabled device, I don't need to find a Wi-Fi hotspot. The MiFi 2200 creates one for me."

Sprint will be the second U.S. carrier to offer the MiFi 2200 -- Verizon's version will hit the market later this month.  But Sprint's will be the first in the U.S. to support the MiFi's GPS capabilities, allowing users to use select location and mapping applications.

Pricing and Availability
This product will be sold under the Sprint Mobile Hotspot name, and it will go on sale in the first week of June on sprint.com, in Sprint retail stores, and other select channels,

It will sell for $100 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year service agreement (excluding taxes).

Customers can choose from two service plans:

• $60 per month mobile broadband only plan
• $150 per month Simply Everything Plan + Mobile Broadband (phone plus device connectivity)

Both plans include up to 5 GB per month and 5 cents per megabyte overage.
