UPDATE: Palm and Sprint have announced the release date and price for the Palm Pre. To learn more, read this article: It's Official: Palm Pre Coming to Sprint on June 6
Many of the rumors about the pricing and release date for the Palm Pre have leaked out of Best Buy, but today's report is undeniably true: this retailer is now listing the Pre on its website.
Unfortunately for those who are eagerly awaiting the first webOS-based smartphone, Best Buy has only posted a "teaser" page for this model. This gives the specifications for Sprint's version that have been public knowledge for months, but doesn't answer the two questions on customer's minds: what the Palm Pre will cost and when it will be released.
Nevertheless, those who are interested can find the page on this retailer's website.
At the very least, it's confirmation that customers will be able to buy this smartphone at Best Buy stores, in addition to Sprint's stores.
What the Rumors Say
According to unconfirmed reports, Palm and Sprint will announce the release date and price for the Palm Pre on May 19.
There's growing evidence that the actual release day will be June 7, while leaked information says it will sell for $200 with a new two-year contract.
As mentioned earlier, much of this information has come from unnamed sources at Best Buy.
An Overview of the Palm Pre
The Palm Pre will be the first device to use Palm's newly-announced webOS. This will be a multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google and Facebook.
The Pre itself will feature a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable 3.1-inch display. This device will also be equipped with 8 GB of on-board storage, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash.
In the U.S., this smartphone will be available first from Sprint, who will add its mobile broadband service EV-DO Rev. A. A Canadian version from Bell Mobility will be released later this year, while the GSM version for Europe and Latin America is also expected before 2010, and will have the 3G standard HSDPA.
