There have been plenty of rumors about the new iPhone model that is supposedly coming early this summer, but less is known about the iPod touch revamp expected a few months later. However, a few details are starting to surface.
According to an unconfirmed report, Apple's next handheld will be the first in this line with a built-in camera. This fits with other rumors that say the next iPhone will have a greater focus on its camera, with video recording and editing allegedly being added. It's possible the iPod touch will get these same features.
This enhancement isn't going to change the design of the upcoming model, though. it will reportedly be identical in size and shape to the current one.
Apple is currently expected to release the next iPod touch in September.
Other Improvements
A new version of the system software for all Apple's mobile devices was unveiled in March, and many of the enhancements in the next iPod touch will come from this.
At the top of this list are support for cut-copy-and-paste, Stereo Bluetooth, and peer-to-peer gaming.
An Overview of the iPod touch
The iPod touch can be thought of as being an iPhone without the phone. It features the same touch-based interface as Apple's smartphone, and includes the same on-screen QWERTY keyboard.
Thanks to Wi-Fi, this traditional handheld lets users browse the web in Safari, play on videos YouTube, download music from the iTunes Store, enter calendar events, or add new contacts.
