BlackBerry Pearl Flip Could Arrive on Verizon this Summer

Verizon Wireless will be getting a version of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip in the next few months, if an unconfirmed report is correct. This smartphone will have a clamshell design, mobile broadband, and a SureType keyboard.

The Pearl Flip launched last fall on T-Mobile USA, but -- according to several unconfirmed reports -- the upcoming version will have a number of differences.

Naturally, the Verizon model will run on this carrier's CDMA network, not GSM like T-Mobile's. And unlike the current model, the Pearl Flip 8230 will have mobile broadband: EV-DO Rev. A.

Not all the changes will be improvements; unlike T-Mobile's version, Verizon's will not have Wi-Fi.

This device will also apparently be white (see leaked image at right), and not  use the same black or red options as the current model.

Exactly when Verizon will introduce the Pearl Flip 8320 is not yet known, but it appears on a roadmap of phones set for release this summer that has leaked out of this carrier.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip is a consumer-oriented smartphone that includes the push messaging features people expect from a RIM device, plus the multimedia capabilities that have now become standard in this company's products. 

What sets it apart from other BlackBerrys is its clamshell design. When closed, users are able to preview calendar reminders, email, text messages, and phone calls on a small external screen. Opening the Pearl Flip up exposes the 320-by-240-pixel (QVGA) internal screen and a SureType keyboard.

A 900 mAh battery and the microSDHC memory card slot sit behind the keyboard. Other features include Bluetooth 2.0 and a GPS receiver.
