The head of Panasonic's phone division has announced that his company is likely to release an Android-based smartphone outside of Japan next year.
Keisuke Ishii said "We are seriously considering developing an Android-based handset and entering overseas mobile phone markets in fiscal 2010."
This would be the company's first phone running Google's operating system, though far from its first handset.
Keisuke declined to be specific about when or where Panasonic will introduce this device.

Panasonic's Android models will have to face competition from a number of other high-profile companies.
HTC created the first two phone running this operating system, the T-Mobile G1 and the HTC Magic. Samsung recently unveiled the Samsung I7500, and is reportedly prepping a second one for T-Mobile.
Motorola is also allegedly working on a Android device for T-Mobile, and one for Verizon, too.
