T-Mobile: Second Android-Powered Phone Coming Soon

T-Mobile has committed to offering its second smartphone running Google's Android OS in the near future.

This carrier released an official statement this afternoon which spells it out clearly and simply:

T-Mobile is planning to offer the follow-on device to the T-Mobile G1 early this summer.

However, the company did not reveal any additional details, but promised to do so later this month.

What the Rumors Say
According to unconfirmed reports, the phone that T-Mobile is hinting about will be the myTouch 3G -- a version of the HTC Sapphire, which recently debuted in Europe as the HTC Magic.

This device has a tablet shape with a 3.2-inch HVGA Touchscreen and a trackball on its front.  It depends on its on-screen keyboard for text input, as there is no hardware one.

The Sapphire/Magic runs Android 1.5 on 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, and has 192 MB of RAM. The Magic comes with the standard suite of Android software, much of which ties in to Google's online services, like Gmail and Google Maps.

It has 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, as well as a microSD card slot.

This model is not expected to replace the T-Mobile G1, but to be an additional option for consumers.
